Cavan was born and raised in Berrien County. He received a BBA in accounting with honors from Mercer University in 1997 and earned his Doctor of Jurisprudence from Walter F. George School of Law in 2000.
Cavan began practicing law in 2000 and worked as an associate first with Gatewood Skipper and Farr, LLP in Americus, Georgia and then with Moore, Clarke, Duvall and Rodgers, P.C. in Valdosta in a variety of practice areas, including residential real estate. In 2006, he joined Studstill & Perry, LLP as a partner with a general practice but focused primarily on real estate. He left private practice in 2008 to be the Vice President and legal counsel for The Citizens Bank. In his role with The Citizens Bank, he oversaw all legal matters including bankruptcy, collections, banking law, real estate and personnel issues. He also managed the bank’s investment portfolio and served on the Board of Directors. In April of 2020, The Citizens Bank was acquired by First Commerce Credit Union, and Cavan assisted with the first-year transition as the VP-Legal until April 2021.
Cavan is now returning to a private practice with a focus in residential and commercial real estate, contracts, banking and finance, estate planning, corporate law, and collections, including foreclosures and creditors’ bankruptcy.
Cavan is a current member and former Chairman of the Georgia Bankers Association’s Bank Counsel Board. He also currently serves on the Valwood Board of Trustees, Valwood Executive Committee, and as Chairman of the Valwood Finance Committee.
Cavan is married to Dana Perkins Perry, and they have two children. Clancy Claire is graduating high school this year and will attend Auburn University in the fall. Hayes is an upcoming junior at Valwood.
